This Easy Homemade Peanut Butter Magic Shell only requires three ingredients and a microwave. The perfect topping for almost any ice cream!
Ever since I made this Homemade Chocolate Magic Shell, I’ve been completely hooked on making my own at home. A few weeks ago I decided to test out a peanut butter version and I have to say, I think I may love this one just a little more.
The wonderful thing about this recipe is that you only need three ingredients to make it, and a microwave. Yes, you read that right, three ingredients!
Not only is this magic shell super easy to make, but there are no funky ingredients and you may already have everything on hand to make a batch. And even if you don’t, you’ll be sure to keep everything on hand for next time.
Since I wanted to use peanut butter in this recipe, I did a little research and found this recipe from Food Network. It’s similar to my Homemade Chocolate Magic Shell, but uses actual peanut butter along with some coconut oil to create that traditional “magic shell” on your ice cream.
To make this recipe, you’ll combine some peanut butter and coconut oil in a bowl and microwave it for 20-30 seconds at a time. Once the mixture is melted, you’ll whisk in some powdered sugar until it’s nice and smooth.
I find that the shell isn’t very sweet with just the peanut butter and coconut oil so I like to add 1/4 cup of powdered sugar as well. But, you can easily increase or decrease the sugar to your personal preference.
Once everything is well combined, just pour the peanut butter magic shell on top of your favorite ice cream! The magic shell will harden after a few seconds, but still stay soft enough to dig into and enjoy.
This recipe will make about 3/4 cup of magic shell, which is perfect for 4-6 people. You can easily double this recipe for a larger crowd or even cut it in half for a smaller batch.
Homemade Peanut Butter Magic Shell
- 1/2 cup (125 grams) creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup (50 grams) coconut oil, measured when solid
- 1/4 cup (30 grams) powdered sugar
Add the peanut butter and coconut oil to a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until completely melted and smooth. Stir in the powdered sugar until no lumps remain.
Top on your favorite ice cream and allow to sit for a few seconds to harden. Serve and enjoy!
This recipe will yield 3/4 cup of magic shell, which is perfect for 4-6 people. You can easily double or halve this recipe as well.
Store any leftover peanut butter magic shell in an airtight container at room temperature. If needed, microwave for 20-30 seconds and stir well before topping on ice cream.
