Halloween Dipped Oreos
If you’re looking for a quick and easy no-bake dessert to make for Halloween, try these Halloween dipped Oreos. Using just a few simple ingredients like colored candy melts and candy eyeballs, you can decorate your Oreos to look like mummies, pumpkins, bats, and more!

Chocolate-covered Oreos are such a fun no-bake treat to make for friends and family year-round, but for Halloween I like to get creative with my decorations!
Instead of tempering melted chocolate, this simple recipe uses colored candy melts to save time and keep it beginner-friendly. And while I like to use a piping bag for decorating the Oreos, you can easily use just a Ziploc bag to get the job done.
If you’ve been searching for a super quick Halloween dessert that uses minimal ingredients and requires no special equipment, this is it! Make a batch to pass out to trick-or-treaters, set out at Halloween parties, or enjoy as an after-school snack throughout the Halloween season.

What You Need
Oreos
You can use either regular or Double Stuf Oreos. Feel free to use golden Oreos or another flavor (there’s usually a seasonal Halloween Oreo!), or a gluten-free variety. You should end up with about a dozen of each design, so 48 decorated Oreos in total. I’d recommend grabbing either a family-size package of Oreos or two smaller packs of your favorite kind, so you have enough to decorate.
Candy Melts
If you plan to make all of the designs shown in this post, you’ll need white, green, orange, and black candy melts. I personally love to use Wilton candy melts.
Decorations
This is where you can really get creative! For these Oreos, I used pretzel sticks, candy eyeballs, and black sanding sugar.
Piping Bag & Tip
I prefer to use piping bags and a small #2 round piping tip. The tip is optional though, if you don’t have one or prefer not to buy one you can just snip off the end of the bag. If you don’t have any piping bags, then a Ziploc bag will also work.

How To Dip Your Oreos
Each brand of candy melts has different instructions, but usually all you have to do is add the candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl, heat as instructed, and stir until smooth.
To coat the Oreos, it’s best if you plop the cookie into the center of the bowl, then use a fork to move it around. Lift the cookie out with the fork and tap the fork gently on the side of the bowl before scraping the bottom to remove any excess.
Then, use a toothpick to carefully slide it off of your fork and place the dipped Oreo on a parchment-lined baking sheet (if you place it directly onto the baking sheet, it will stick).
Tip: For perfect Oreos, you can use an Oreo mold. I didn’t use one for this batch, but it will definitely give you a cleaner, more professional look!

Decorating Tips
- Don’t overheat the candy melts. If they’re heated for too long, the candy melts will seize and end up clumpy. I usually just microwave mine in 20 to 30 second increments, stirring well each time, until they’re just melted and smooth.
- Use a toothpick to fix any imperfections. If you need to pop air bubbles or move the candy eyes around a little, it’s much easier to use the tip of a toothpick rather than your fingers.
- Make sure to add the candy eyes and sanding sugar while the melts are still wet. This will ensure that they stick! If you forgot to add the candy eye balls, you can add a bit of melted candy melts to the back of each eyeball to get them to stick.
- Allow the coating to set before adding extra details. This will allow the details (like the lines and vine) to stand out more and not sink into the base layer.

Recipe Variations
I made pumpkin, bat, monster, and mummy Oreos, but you can easily mix and match the ingredients to create any Halloween-inspired design you want! Here are some more ways you can customize your cookies:
- Use pecan pieces or brown M&M’s for the pumpkin stems (I tested the pumpkins with pecan pieces and loved them too!)
- Pipe a jack-o-lantern face with black candy melts on the pumpkin Oreos instead of the lines and vine
- Add fangs to the bats with white candy melts
- Place a single candy eye in the center of a white cookie and pipe red candy melt lines to create bloodshot eyeballs
- Pair candy eyeballs of different sizes for a mismatched monster look
- Use different colored candy melts to make other monsters, aliens, or spooky creatures

These Halloween dipped Oreos are so simple, but I guarantee you everyone will love them. They’re easy enough for kids to help decorate too!

Halloween Dipped Oreos
Ingredients
- 48 Oreos
- Candy melts (black, white, orange and green; I used Wilton)
- Candy eyeballs
- Pretzel sticks
- Black sanding sugar
Equipment
- #2 round piping tip optional
Instructions
Mummy Oreos
- Melt the white candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until melted and smooth.
- Place an Oreo into the melted candy melts. Use a fork to move it around so it’s completely coated, then lift it out using the fork. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl and gently scrape the bottom of the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove any excess. Place the Oreo onto the prepared baking sheet, using a toothpick to help slide it off of the fork. Place two candy eyes onto the Oreo and repeat with the remaining Oreos. Allow to dry for 15 minutes.
- Fill a piping with the remaining white melts. If they’ve firmed up, you can just microwave them for 10 to 20 seconds until melted. Snip the end of the piping bag and drizzle lines over the Oreos to mimic mummy wrapping.
- Let the Oreos set up and dry completely.
Pumpkins Oreos
- Melt the orange candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until melted and smooth.
Repeat with the remaining Oreos. Allow to dry for 15 minutes.
- Place the remaining melted orange melts into a piping bag fitted with a #2 tip (or snip the end of the piping bag). If they’ve firmed up, you can just microwave them for 10 to 20 seconds until melted.
- Pipe one line down the center of the Oreo, and two evenly spaced curved lines on either side to create pumpkin sections.
- Cut the pretzel sticks into smaller ½” long pieces. Dip the cut end into a small amount of orange melts and adhere to the top of the Oreo to create a stem. Allow to dry completely.
- Melt a little bit of the green candy melts in the microwave until smooth and melted. Place into a piping bag and snip off the tip. Pipe a vine or two from the stem and down the sides. Allow to dry completely.
Bat Oreos
- Melt the black candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until melted and smooth.
- Carefully place two candy eyes onto the Oreo and sprinkle black sanding sugar all over the top and sides of the Oreo. It’s ok if it covers the eyes, it will come off later. Repeat with the remaining Oreos and allow to dry completely.
- Carefully open an Oreo and scrape the cream filling from the center. Cut each Oreo side in half, to create 4 half pieces total. For 2 of the halves, cut ¼” off the sides on the right side. For the other two halves, cut ¼” off the sides on the left side. This will make wings for 2 Oreo bats. Repeat this same method for the remaining bats.
- For one bat, one wing of each is needed. One cut off from the right and cut off from the left. Dip the cut off edge in a little bit of black candy melts and adhere to each side of the bat, in the upper ⅓ area. If the candy melts have firmed up, you can just microwave them for 10 to 20 seconds until melted.
- Let the wings set to dry. Once totally dry, carefully pick up each Oreo and shake off any excess sanding sugar.
Monster Oreos
- Melt the green candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well after each increment, until melted and smooth.
Allow to dry completely.
- Dip the pretzel sticks into the remaining black candy melts, about ½” up the stick, tapping off any excess, then place on the parchment paper to dry.
- Once dry, cut the dipped pretzel down to a ½” long piece. Dip the cut end into a small amount of black or green melts and adhere to the middle of the Oreo to create bolts.
- Place melted black melts into a piping bag fitted with #2 tip (or snip the end of the piping bag). Pipe the hair and mouth and allow it to dry completely.
